What is a Gas Cooker Installer?
When having any gas cooker fitted in a property you own, it is imperative for the work to be completed by a competent Gas Safe registered gas cooker installer. A Gas Safe cooker installer will carry a Gas Safe ID card which will include a photograph, a unique licence number and state the gas items they are allowed to install. Any appliance fitted by someone that is not a Gas Safe registered installer is classed as illegal work. It is also illegal for a gas cooker installer who works for a Gas Safe registered company during the week to do private work in their spare time. If you are in any doubt about whether they are registered gas cooker installers you can check the Gas Safe Register online or by calling 0800 406 5500.
What will the gas cooker installer do?
During a gas cooker installation, your Gas Safe registered gas cooker installer will disconnect your old appliance and fit a new gas hose and bayonet; this is because the existing installation may not have remained tight enough throughout its time fitted. The gas installer may also fit a security chain or a stability bracket to prevent the appliance tilting or becoming uneven. Once this is done the cooker installer will position the new cooker and test the cooker for any gas leaks and ensure its safe operation thereafter. The installer will then provide you with a copy of the documentation. It is a legal requirement to have a Gas Safety Certificate so it is vital that your installer issues you with one.
