If you need or simply just want a new gas cooker there are many different choices. Gas cookers can be purchased from any major high street retailers such as Comet, Argos, Currys or Dixons with prices to suit everyone.

Some retailers will offer gas cooker installers to fit your new appliance as part of their service or for an added cost. If this service is not offered, you can hire a Gas Safe registered cooker installer to fit it for you.

The gas cooker you choose has to be installed by a qualified gas cooker installer. It is imperative that the cooker installer who fits your new gas cooker is a Gas Safe registered cooker installer. Anyone fitting a new appliance that is not a Gas Safe registered installer is considered to be illegal.

If you are having a whole new kitchen fitted it could mean that a gas cooker installer has to fit new gas pipes. Messing around with gas connections could have fatal consequences and fitting a new gas cooker should only be completed by a fully qualified gas cooker installer.

Once the cooker has been installed the gas engineer will test your appliance for any leaks or defects. When the fitting and safety checks have been completed your gas cooker installer will issue you with a Gas Safety Certificate.

Your old appliance can then be disposed of or recycled. If you have purchased your new appliance from a high street store then the gas cooker installer will usually take the old appliance away with them to be recycled.

Alternatively you can recycle your appliance by reselling, in which case you can ask your cooker installer to check the appliance to ensure it is not hazardous before doing so. If you’re purchasing a second hand cooker this must also be fitted by a gas cooker installer.
